We are fighting a war, and we need you to help us win. Creative writing is under siege. With more and more schools focusing on Common Core and Standardized Testing, less focus is being made on giving you – the student – opportunities to express yourself freely and hone your creative passion. To create new worlds, explore new depths, and inspire others also to pick up the pen and start writing.
We believe that creative writing can be an extremely fulfilling and meaningful outlet not only for expressing one’s own thoughts and ideas, but for developing better communication skills, healthier relationships, and stronger critical thinking abilities.
Creative writing also has the ability to inspire others to be creative themselves and find meaning in their own lives.
We believe that the purpose of public education is to provide a rich and stimulating environment that will allow students to communicate effectively, think critically, and develop a personal sense of purpose and meaning.
This cannot be done without providing students opportunities to explore their personal creativity and develop their potential interests in the different arts, including creative writing.
For this reason, the overall mission of the LVYWF is to stimulate the minds of young students and demonstrate to them that creative writing is every bit as important as the standards taught in a public school curriculum.
